I could remember the barrage of insults when I started doing clowning and parlor magic when I was a kid.
“You’re going to be a clown? That’s lame.”
“I don’t even think fast food joints would hire you to work for them.”
“How are you going to pay the bills with your stupid hobby?”
It was a downer being in the small town of Sterling. The lack of size, the lack of opportunities, and the lack of dreams hindered my enjoyment. I needed a change of pace.
I needed to escape.
