We went back to that part of the song and it was getting to the part where it hinged on my performance. I exercised my bow and I began to play.
I followed the notes with the devotion of a monk as they converged with the other instruments. Things were going great and I went farther than when I did the first time we tried playing. Sure, I wasn’t a shoo-in for the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, but at least things were running smoothly so far.
It then got to the part where only the violins played. Alright, let’s do this. I kept playing my part of the piece, but my motivation was getting the best of me.
Then, a note that was a half-step higher than what was written eked out.
I blew it!
