This is a delayed post due to crazy busy moments and the power going out multiple times during a blizzard last night, but I have some belated, yet extraordinary news.
I completed the NaNoWriMo challenge this year! HOORAY!
For those who don’t know about NaNoWriMo, it’s short for National Novel Writing Month. It’s a challenge where you have to write a 50,000 word novel over the course of November. That’s roughly the same length as the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy in terms of word count. I’ve done this challenge since 2014 and I’ve competed in Camp NaNoWriMo which is their off-season contests. A good portion of my books have been NaNoWriMo and Camp NaNoWriMo projects.
Last year was considered a failure for me though. I did Camp NaNoWriMo, but I failed the 50k goal for the real thing last year due to finishing Hollandus Landing and dealing with a heavy work schedule with multiple jobs. This year, not only did I beat the challenge, I beat it with over 59k words which is my longest NaNoWriMo project thus far.
I don’t know how many of you care about my literary endeavors, but this means a lot to me.

I am a champion!

Congratulations. That is massive. I signed up last year but then life happened. I didn’t even bother this year because I knew it wasn’t happening.

Thanks, Karandi! It is quite an undertaking taking on that challenge. Here in America, we have to deal with a major holiday which can really throw off everyone once it happens. Out of curiosity, what were you trying to write last year for NaNoWriMo? Ever heard of Camp NaNoWriMo?

I’d like to get back into writing fantasy but honestly, I think I’m going to have to wait until I can take some real leave from work. My head is too cluttered to focus on an extended story while I’m working and while I’m okay at writing short things (you know like blog posts) once I start trying to pick something up after a day of work I just don’t get anywhere or I’m forever back tracking and ultimately I find it very frustrating.
I was thinking next year I might try to put together a short story collection just so that I am writing some fiction. I kind of miss it to be honest.

Gotcha. I totally get it. Some of my books are in that fantasy realm, but I mess around with different tropes. Let me know when you do write a short story anthology or start posting your fictional works out there. I’d like to read them.
